I’m really looking forward to this film from 180 South. There’s far too many climbing-porn videos out there, and it’s nothing like what normal climbing is about. UK videos do tend to stay away from this genre (ie. E11, Echo Wall), but even then they’re far too much about the superhuman routes than they are about actually just going climbing. I don’t want just the climb, I want the frustrating route-finding of the walk-in, the tired early morning drive, the sleepless nights planning and the domestic sacrifices. My climbing buddy often says that he sometimes enjoys the rigging just as much as the climbing, and I’m the same about the walk-in. You wouldn’t spend 14hours packing, driving, walking, freezing, hungry and tired, just to spend the same about of time belaying as you do actual climbing - you obviously enjoy all of it.
